21/01/2008 L'AVANT-DERNIER "POILU" NOUS A QUITTES. THE LAST BUT ONE FRENCH SOLDIER FROM THE FIRST WORLD WAR LEAVES US.Louis de Cazenave est décédé à l'âge de 110 ans. Lors de la guerre 1914-1918, il avait combattu avec les tirailleurs sénégalais avant d'être muté dans l'artillerie. Pour lui, la guerre "était un truc absurde, inutile ! A quoi ça sert de massacrer les gens ? Rien ne peut le justifier, rien !"
Il ne reste donc plus qu'un seul Poilu en vie : Lazarre Ponticelli, né le 7 décembre 1897. Celui-ci a refusé d'avoir des funérailles nationales ou même le Panthéon. "Ce serait un affront pour les gens qui sont morts sans considération" ... et parfois même sans une croix de bois, ne manquait pas de rappeler Louis de Cazenave...

Louis de Cazenave died at the age of 110 years. During the 1914-1918 war, before being transferred to the artillery, he had been fighting with the infantry men of Senegal. For him the war was an absurd, pointless thing. What was it for, massacring people? Nothing can justify it, nothing!
The only First World War soldier still to be alive is Lazarre Ponticelli, he was born on December 17th 1897. This one has refused to have a national funeral or the same as the Panthéon. This would be an affront to those who died without respect... and sometimes without even a wooden cross, not forgetting to recall Louis de Cazenave.
Rest in Peace, Louis.
